Subject: Urgent action needed to stop sewage pollution and repeated fish kills in rivers
Dear Sir/Madam,
We, the citizens of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, are deeply concerned about repeated fish kills and the continuing discharge of untreated sewage and pollutants into the Mula, Mutha, Mula-Mutha, Ram, Pawana and Indrayani rivers, their tributaries, rivulets and stormwater drains.
These recurring incidents indicate serious and continuing pollution. We request PMC, PCMC, MPCB and other concerned agencies to undertake an immediate, coordinated and time-bound drive to identify and stop the sources, including:
Pollution sources must be traced upstream and stopped at source, rather than action being taken only after fish deaths occur.
We also request that PMC, PCMC and MPCB establish a joint monitoring and enforcement mechanism and publicly share information on identified pollution sources, non-compliant STPs, water-quality findings and action taken against violators.
Preventing pollution must take priority over repeatedly responding to its consequences.
We request the concerned authorities to initiate this enforcement drive immediately and provide citizens with an Action Taken Report within 30 days of receiving this representation.
Sincerely,
Concerned Citizens of Pune & Pimpri-Chinchwad
